About DR10 Drink Driving: Young Driver Education

We are a dedicated team of Drink-Driving Rehabilitation Course (DDRC) trainers, delivering government-approved programs to drivers convicted of drink-driving offences. Our mission is to help individuals understand their mistakes, learn about the relationship between alcohol and driving, and develop strategies to avoid reoffending.

The DDRC is an engaging program featuring quizzes, questionnaires, group activities, and practical tests. While many attendees initially view the course as a punishment, the overwhelming majority find it eye-opening and valuable, with only a rare few considering it unhelpful.

Our experience spans across all age groups, though the 25–35 age group is consistently the largest demographic for drink-driving convictions. Close behind is the 18–25 age group, which faces the harshest consequences of drink-driving convictions, including impacts on careers, job opportunities, travel, and skyrocketing insurance costs.

Alarmingly, most of the young people we train admit to having little to no prior knowledge of drink-driving laws, how alcohol impairs driving, or the real-life consequences of a conviction. Time and again, we hear, “If only I’d known this earlier, I wouldn’t be here today.”

We firmly believe that integrating the government-approved DDRC into early education—before young people take their driving test rather than after they break the law—could significantly reduce convictions among 18–25-year-olds. This proactive approach has the potential to shift the trend over time, ensuring that in ten years, the 25 to 35 age group will no longer dominate drink-driving statistics.
