Educating Young Drivers Today, Reducing Convictions Tomorrow

Every year, thousands of young drivers face the life-changing consequences of drink and drug driving. At DR10DrinkDriving, we believe prevention is better than cure. Our mission is to provide proactive, DVSA-approved education for young people before they get behind the wheel—empowering them with knowledge, responsibility, and the tools to stay safe, avoid convictions, and reduce risks on the road.

This is what we do:

Many 16 to 18-year-olds are focused on passing their driving test, finding an affordable car, and securing insurance, recognising that driving offers them new freedom and independence. This makes it an ideal time to educate them on alcohol awareness and drink-driving laws.

The "Getting Ready for the Road" program is specifically designed for this age group, and teachers facilitate it as part of the PSHE curriculum. Through real-life case studies, students are encouraged to analyse, discuss, and be tested on scenarios, promoting safer, law-abiding driving. The program’s format allows teachers to guide rather than instruct, helping participation and active learning.

Upon completion, students receive a certificate of attendance, which they can present to insurance companies once they pass their driving test.

Drink and Drug Driving Theory Test

Learner drivers receive minimal education on alcohol and driving from their instructors or the official Theory Test. The "Drink and Drug Driving Theory Test" provides essential information on alcohol’s effects on the body, driving safety, and drink-driving laws. This Theory Test will be used upon completing the "Getting Ready for the Road" program, as well as during or after the official driving test.

As an incentive for, upon completion, learners receive a certificate from their driving instructor as proof of passing the theory test.

Hard to Get,
Easy to Lose

Passing a driving test is a major achievement for a young driver, representing significant effort, dedication, and learning. The book "Hard to Get, Easy to Lose" is designed to continue their education, featuring real case studies of young drivers who were caught drink-driving and the consequences they faced. The book also explains drug-driving laws, offering additional case studies as valuable learning tools. It makes an excellent gift for new drivers, providing detailed information that reinforces safe and responsible driving habits after they’ve earned their license.

Caught Drink Driving?

Each year, over 10,000 young drivers are caught, charged, and released on bail for drink-driving offences. These young drivers often face more mental strain than older adults, and they need guidance on how to handle the situation.

The "Hope for the Best, Plan for the Worst" book has been created to assist them in managing the aftermath, helping to limit further damage and address the mental health challenges they may experience.

In addition to the book, a free helpline is available to answer any questions not covered in the material, offering further support when needed.

DDR Course
for Convicted Young Drivers

This DDRC (Drink and Drug Rehabilitation Course) is specifically designed for young drivers who have been convicted of drink- or drug-driving offences.

Acknowledging that young drivers often face tougher obstacles in areas such as career development, job opportunities, travel, and obtaining insurance as a result of these convictions, the DDRC focuses on helping them understand and manage these unique challenges.

The course directly addresses the legal and personal consequences young drivers face, aiming to minimise the long-term impact on their futures.
